Spelled just like the traditional Japanese garb! (Ed. note: These women are wearing “kimonos”. Eric is writing about Komono watches. They are NOT spelled the same.”

One thing that I’ve noticed with a lot of the cool watch brands that have been launched in the industry lately is that they all seem to be running counter to what we’ve seen with watches in the last two decades. Whether it’s the millennial generation taking over or just the natural cycle of fashion, the newest watches all have one thing in common: minimalism.

Yes, our parents and grandparents desired timepieces that would not only tell them what time it was, but that also had days, dates, chronographs, alarms, countdown timers, compasses, barometers, depth meters, GPS, IP address finders, games, the Internet, phones, microwave ovens, mini-fridges, washing machines, portable housing, transporters and–of course–a backlight. And don’t get me wrong–those are still widely available. But there has been a subtle shift into what our generation wants on our watches. And what is it? Just like minimalists themselves–not much.

This picture was taken three weeks ago. He still has not moved.

And while we here at WatchCo have picked up plenty of minimalist watch brands (Hygge and Rosendahl to name a few), we are especially excited to welcome Komono watches to our timepiece family because of something they excel in where other brands have fallen short: Color.

Despite what your local hipster minimalists might say, color does not clutter. Marlboro reds, canary yellows, ocean blues–they all set the correct tone when worn properly. And here are three of the choicest Komonos we already have in stock that will help you do just that:

1. The Komono Winston Heritage Herringbone

Notice the optical illusion strap attached to the case?

This 41-millimeter smoke black case contains a high-grade quartz movement that features a full year warranty on it. The cherry red secondhand contrasts with the steel number markers and Komono logo at the “four” as well. That art show in San Francisco that you’re attending is the perfect occasion to debut this flattened wrist candy.

Within the last few years, the wood watch craze has hit both North America and Europe. And while we’re proud to offer a bevy of wood watch brands (Tense, WeWOOD, Silvano and others), it’s also interesting to see that many other non-wood brands have followed suit.

This guy orders wood watches by the crate.

2. The Komono Winston Black Wood

Before there was metal, there was wood, minimally speaking of course.

Enter this beauty from Komono. The black markings set it apart enough to read it clearly, but not enough to make it too loud. While the strap is mocha brown and the case is metallic chocolate, the steel dial actually is a throwback to the old can’t-bust-em’ grocery getters of the 1980s:

Guys’ pink collared polos were all the rage back then and now, too.

Before I dismiss you from today’s blog post, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my personal favorite of the new Komono line:

3. The Komono Winston Print Series Paisley Foulard

I don’t think a bad paisley-decorated thing has ever been created. Ever. All of my toilet seats are even paisley-speckled.

This robust time-teller is the most striking minimalist watch we carry in my humble opinion.  The shiny steel dial and case pop out like a gopher out of a hole* on the purple and red paisley strap. Can you imagine anything less Japanese despite it’s Far East design? While Komono classifies all three of these choices as men’s watches, we’ve already been selling a good amount of them to ladies who love oversized women’s watches as well.

We have nearly two dozen Komonos already loaded up on our web site and ready for your wrist today. So put down the chopsticks and flip off that weird game show you’re watching. Hop on our web site, and let us enhance your wardrobe today. どうもありがとう!**

*Two Chevy Chase movie references in one post. Somewhere someone is shooting an ounce of whiskey.

**Thank you very much!
