One thing that I’ve noticed with a lot of the cool watch brands that have been launched in the industry lately is that they all seem to be running counter to what we’ve seen with watches in the last two decades. Whether it’s the millennial generation taking over or just the natural cycle of fashion, the newest watches all have one thing in common: minimalism.
Yes, our parents and grandparents desired timepieces that would not only tell them what time it was, but that also had days, dates, chronographs, alarms, countdown timers, compasses, barometers, depth meters, GPS, IP address finders, games, the Internet, phones, microwave ovens, mini-fridges, washing machines, portable housing, transporters and–of course–a backlight. And don’t get me wrong–those are still widely available. But there has been a subtle shift into what our generation wants on our watches. And what is it? Just like minimalists themselves–not much.
And while we here at WatchCo have picked up plenty of minimalist watch brands (Hygge and Rosendahl to name a few), we are especially excited to welcome Komono watches to our timepiece family because of something they excel in where other brands have fallen short: Color.
